CBD Infused active wear

The first companies to have manufactured CBD infused products tended to concentrate on bedding and sleepwear, which does make sense, as CBD is said to react with serotonin receptors in the brain to help relax and calm the body and the brain itself. However in the past year a few companies have moved into producing CBD infused active wear, which they say will prove beneficial during workouts.

It seems that the first CBD infused active wear for women came from Acabada Proactive Wear, an American company, who combined luxury fabrics that were infused with organic CBD oil. How does it work? The technology involved is called micro encapsulation, the CBD is infused into tiny microscopic capsules which are layered into the fabric. The capsules are broken open by friction and body heat created during physical activity, releasing the CBD oil on to the skin, which then acts very much as if a CBD lotion or cream has been rubbed in. The clothing is deliberately cut and sewn in such a way that the infused part of the fabric is on the area of the body most likely to experience inflammation and pain during physical activity.

Are there any disadvantages?

Sounds good but are there disadvantages? There's no getting away from it, clothing, particularly sports wear needs to be cleaned on a regular basis, and unfortunately, that means with each wash CBD is also washed away. Acabada states that their clothing, which contains 25 mgs of CBD, is good for at least 40 washes and according to their website they will be introducing an upscale programme that will allow you to recycle your garments. Of course, the cost maybe a factor, if, depending on usage, you have to replace your gym gear every few months. Finally, there appears to be no way to determine how much CBD will be released at any given time, so using topical CBD creams or lotions maybe the easier option.

However, In an article that appeared on the Allure website, Seth Baum, the CEO and co-founder of Acabada said " In terms of delivery - Acabada provides an alternative method of the traditional topical application. Once the CBD is released from the fabric and has made contact with the wearer's skin it acts exactly the same as applying any other type of topical CBD cream or gel. The micro encapsulation delivery method has been tested and proven effective for over 15 years with documented results to back these findings"

We do know that there is research ongoing into the benefits of using CBD for the treatment of pain and inflammation and that there is plenty of anecdotal evidence suggesting that topical Cannabidiol can alleviate the symptoms relating to pain and inflammation but as with all things relating to CBD - watch this space!
