Last year Birmingham City Football Club were the first football club in the world to be sponsored by a CBD company, Green Monkey, whose carbonated drinks, containing 10mg of CBD, will be available at stalls throughout the Blue's ground and in corporate areas.

Also former England Rugby National Team Captain, James Haskell, and two time World Cup Winner, Ben Franks have launched a CBD brand, Impact Sports, which will primarily, be aimed at athletes. Both men were interviewed in September 2019 at the Hemp and CBD Expo held at the NEC, Birmingham. They were asked how other athletes were reacting to CBD and James said:

So in the sporting world, the primary concern by professional athletes is, will I pass a drugs test? Will it affect me? And everything else but there is an appetite from people to find a substitute to help with the rigours of sport and deal with issues on your body.

But the boys are getting onto it and that's the thing. Around the changing room I would say 60%, 70% of the lads are doing it".

And they're not the only sportsmen to become involved in the CBD world, golfer, Rickie Fowler, UFC's Nate Diaz and Saracen's rugby players George Kruis and Dom Day have shown support for the use of CDB in sport.

In 2018 CBD was approved and removed from the prohibited list for use by athletes by the WADA (World Anti Doping Agency), and sports men and women are beginning to recognise that CBD may have the potential to help athletes recover from training stress, manage both occasional and chronic pain and aid sleep.
